~ Having a baby! ~     Alex

It's Happening

My Baby to Be

My Unborn Child

One Day Nearer

This page is dedicated to my two friends,
for whom these poems were written
and whose baby appears on this page -,
but I am mindful that for some,
this will be a painful page…
and my thoughts are with you.

It’s Happening!

The sweat's pouring off my brow.
I keep clenching my hands.
Oh dear, my heart's pounding!

Must tell the family
then our friends,
'We're having a baby!'

I'll have to hold her hand,
mop her brow,
oh dear, get the car going,
quick dash, but not too fast!

Then, 'oh what do I do?
Is that a leg?
No can't be a leg,
it's gotta be a head!'

I'm sweating again,
I'm coming to the point..
of ‘Oh...what do I do, nurse?'

'Just keep pushing...
keep pushing’ said Nurse,
‘on that bank balance..’
’for 10years, 20 years,
never mind the pain!'

'Then when it's all out,
you'll be able to hold
your child on high
and say, 'It's a ____ !
Yes, we've got one of those!'

'Oh thank you, nurse.'

My Baby to Be

My baby, rest
your head upon my chest.
For you I would give all
and to the woman in whose womb you lie.

In you, my babe
My longings fulfilled.
My arms will give you the strength
To see life to the end.

My beautiful, special baby,
In you, I am blessed.

And when you are adult,
if God spares you so
My love and protection
as your Dad
will be no less than now.

My son or my daughter,
no matter what -
you will give me
the joys of fatherhood
for which I have so
longed.

My Unborn Child

I long for you,
my child that is not yet.
My womb surrounds you,
my heart beats for you
and my arms long to hold you.

I long to feel the movements
of your tiny arms and legs
within my body.

My breasts to feed you,
my eyes to look upon your tiny face.
my ears to hear your first stumbling words.

For you I would give
all I hold dear.
In you, my longings fulfilled.
In my arms you will rest,
for you, only the best.

And when you are adult,
if God spares you so,
my love as your mother
will be no less than now.

My baby, my baby
I have longed for you so.

For my pregnant friend.

One Day Nearer

One day nearer
to holding you
in my arms,
love of my life.

One day nearer
to looking you
in the eyes,
love of my life.

One day nearer,
to suckling you
at my breast,
love of my life.

One day nearer,
to hearing you
gurgle and pooh,
love of my life.

One day nearer,
to showing the world
what God has given
to the love of my life and me.
